Yesterdays game at the Cubbies...

Interesting game to say the least, I didn't see it live(hopefully it won't be that way for long, I could possibly be getting MLB extra innings soon) but I have gotten the jist of it from ESPN highlights and looking on with MLB.com Gameday. First off at two points in this game the Mariners drove in a go ahead run, they came from probably the two least likely people playing, Washburn in the fourth with his first hit in nearly 3 years and Willie Ballgame who drove in his 4th RBI of the season with his single. But on the play that Willie drove in Vidro, and the plays leading up to it, the odds are so astronomical that it shouldn't have happened it just amazes me. First Vidro hits a screamer that almost goes out and he is standing at second with a double, with only his 10th extra base hit this year. Next up is Betancourt, who is intentionally walked for only the 3rd time in his career to get to Bloomquist. With Willie up at the plate I'm thinking, OK lets just get on past the bottom of the 13th and hope we can get to the top of the 14th where the top of the order would take over, but then he hits a single to right, and I'm amazed thinking that the bases are going to be loaded and that Willie pulled through, but then Vidro is chugging around 3rd base towards home and I'm thinking, he is gonna get nailed out at the plate. Then Jones makes a horrible throw from right field to home to try and get Vidro, the throw still beats him there but Vidro does nice wierd little juke to get away from Barrett's tag. Vidro still hasn't touched the plate yet but then Barrett drops the ball and Vidro steps on home plate for the go ahead run. Now lets go back and just think about what happened, Vidro had an extra base hit, Yuni drew a walk(even if it was intentional), Willie hits a single, Vidro scores from 2nd base on a single. If anybody can calculate the odds on that happening I'd like to know. Burke drives in an insurance run and then Putz comes in and in a very nerve racking bottom of the 13th and doesn't allow a run dispite loading the bases. On a side note about the bullpen, O'Flaherty pitched great and deserved the win he got and the bullpen is has been over worked as of late, the only reason Putz came in in the 13th was because there was nobody left besides Jake Woods, and not even Hargrove is trusting him with a 2 run lead. Today would be a great day for Batista go to 7 or more innings. Also if we have a lead in the 9th don't expect to see Putz as he is recovering from flu like symptoms and has pitched a good deal lately.
